چکیده

Abstract Ipomoea L. is the largest genus in Convolvulaceae with approximately 150 species reported from Brazil, more than 50% of which are northeastern region country. The represented by 48 Pernambuco state, occurring Atlantic Forest and Caatinga vegetation as well areas impacted human activities. We present here an identification key, photographic documentation, taxonomic comments, geographical distributions Pernambuco. New records cearensis O’Donell, I. hirsutissima Gardner squamosa Choisy for state reported.

New species of Ipomoea (Convolvulaceae) from South America

The importance of discovering, describing and cataloguing poorly known species in herbarium collections is discussed. It is a spur to efforts at rediscovery and consequent conservation efforts. The problems faced in describing species from limited material are discussed and our methods and criteria in making a decision are described. Prospects for future novelties are briefly assessed. Fifteen ...

Alkaloidal components in the poisonous plant, Ipomoea carnea (Convolvulaceae).

Natural intoxication of livestock by the ingestion of Ipomoea carnea (Convolvulaceae) sometimes occurs in tropical regions of the world. Polyhydroxylated alkaloids were isolated from the leaves, flowers, and seeds of the poisonous plant and characterized. Chromatographic separation of the leaf extract resulted in the isolation of swainsonine (1), 2-epi-lentiginosine (2), calystegines B(1) (3), ...

Systematics of Ipomoea subgenus Quamoclit (Convolvulaceae) based on ITS sequence data and a Bayesian phylogenetic analysis.

A Bayesian phylogenetic analysis of 36 Ipomoea species using sequence data from the internal transcribed spacer region was compared with classification schemes based on traditional methods and a previously published cpDNA restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) study. These molecular studies support a diversity of groups that were circumscribed on the basis of phenetic principles and ag...

A proposed mechanism for physical dormancy break in seeds of Ipomoea lacunosa (Convolvulaceae).

BACKGROUND AND AIMS The water-impermeable seeds of Ipomoea lacunosa undergo sensitivity cycling to dormancy breaking treatment, and slits are formed around bulges adjacent to the micropyle during dormancy break, i.e. the water gap opens. The primary aim of this research was to identify the mechanism of slit formation in seeds of this species. METHODS Sensitive seeds were incubated at various ...

Inbreeding depression and selfing rate of Ipomoea hederacea var. integriuscula (Convolvulaceae).

Inbreeding depression and selfing rate were investigated in the self-compatible vine Ipomoea hederacea to assess the variability of the breeding system. Inbreeding depression differed between populations and the magnitude varied at germination, growth (as measured by aboveground biomass), and reproductive potential. Plants from Macon County, Alabama, USA, had significant inbreeding depression (...
